From just crazy enough to keep from going completely insane:

that's right, summer is over in the contra dance world and i went to the worcester dance last night. britt decided not to go, but i picked up martin and we met jeffrey for dinner and then went to the dance. it took me a dance or two to get back into the groove, but rather like bike riding, it's something you don't forget. louise (martin's mom) is taking a trip to armenia as of this coming friday; thus today is her last real day at home with her family before she goes. so i went back to jeffrey's house for the night after i took martin home so that i wouldn't be in the way at louise's house today. jeffrey's teaching a class at wpi on modern world history with a focus on technology and agriculture, so we had some most excellent conversations along those lines and i got to meet his ferrets. i'm not sure i would want to keep ferrets myself, but they are very intelligent, curious, and persistant, and generally amusing. jeffrey said that one has to have an excellent sense of humor to live with ferrets because otherwise they would drive one crazy, and i could totally understand why... as they tried their damnedest to get into my bag and climbed up my leg and my sleeve. aside from that bit about climbing up people's legs, i think in some ways i'm not unlike ferrets. except i don't smell funny. and i don't hoard dishtowels. and i don't... well, ok, i'd like to think that i share some of their persistance, curiosity, and intelligence... in a good way. we took a walk this morning (sans ferrets) and continued some of last night's conversations, and then i drove home. the end!
